Ombré nails are really fun and surprisingly easy to do! The color scheme I chose feels very tropical and summery to me. Today, I will show you a quick tutorial on how to get this look.
- Nail polish (two to three colors is good)
- Top coat
- Cosmetic sponge
You can start by cutting the cosmetic sponge to the approximate size of your finger. Next, you will want to completely saturate the sponge with water. That way, the sponge doesn’t just absorb up all the nail polish.
Begin by painting your nails with a base coat. I used the lightest color as my base coat. Next, start painting your sponge. I did one stripe of the cotton candy pink, then a stripe of the coral, and lastly a stripe of the hot pink. You want to be pretty generous with the amount of nail polish you apply to the sponge.
Give it a few seconds to let the sponge suck up some of the nail polish. You don’t want the outside to be too wet or the gradient effect will not come out as well. When it looks okay, press the sponge onto your nail. Repeat this a few times with a patting motion. This will blend out the harsh lines and create the ombré effect. Don’t overdo the patting or it will start looking lumpy on your nail.
Repeat with the rest of your nails. Apply more nail polish if you have to. Once you are done, finish it off with a clear coat!
I hope this tutorial made sense to you. If not, here’s a pictorial I found off google. (Couldn’t find the original source because I’ve seen this picture on a ton of different websites.)
